Am I a Candidate?

Are you a candidate for weight loss surgery? Georgia Coast Surgical can help you answer this question by providing expert resources and information. Because the more you understand your weight loss surgery options, the better it is for all concerned.

To help you make a valid, logical and informed decision, we provide you with several resources. First there is this website where you will find a lot of information as well as links to other sites. We also offer frequent information seminars given by Dr. Kent and our staff where all the options for weight loss, both surgical and nonsurgical, are thoroughly discussed and where your questions can be answered. Our patient seminars are free of charge and open to anyone who is interested.

According to the National Institutes of Health, patients with a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 40 or over and patients with a BMI of 35 to 40 with an obesity associated illness are considered to be candidates for surgery. Recently the FDA approved the Allergan Lap Band (which is the band we use) for use in patients with a BMI of 30 to 35 and a significant obesity associated illness.

We also provide, free of charge, access to a website called EMMI which gives you very detailed information about your procedure. When you are finished reviewing EMMI, you will know if you are a candidate for weight loss surgery and will have chosen the course that is right for yourself.
