Exercise is a very important part of becoming healthy and feeling better. Besides, if you exercise, you will lose weight faster. You will also feel better and sleep better.

A good exercise program combines cardio type exercise and resistance exercise to build muscle. Muscle is the best friend of the person who is trying to lose fat. A pound of muscle burns up 5000 calories each month while you are just sitting around sucking air! That's nearly 2 pounds of body fat! I recommend doing the cardio 3 times a week and the resistance exercise twice a week. You should also plan two days a week for rest. Muscles require rest to recover from exercise and grow stronger.

The two hardest things about exercising are getting started in the first place and then keeping yourself from doing too much too soon. I highly recommend that you read a short book called Smart Exercise by Covert Bailey. You can get it from Amazon.com for less than $10. He has lots of good ideas and it is easy to read.

If you live near Brunswick, be sure to take advantage of the F.I.T. program at the hospital. It is a wonderful way to get started.

Doctor H. has made some very good points in his post! Reading it will provide you great suggestions! If you live in or near Brunswick, utilizing the F.I.T. Program at Southeast Georgia Health System (hospital) is a great way to get started on your exercises program!

The F.I.T. Program will also provide you a personal and thorough fitness evaluation. This personal fitness evaluation is included within the program fee!

If anyone has any ideas of group activities that we can do together (monthly or bi-monthly group walks, bike riding on Jekyll Island, etc) just let me know! :wink:
