Center of Excellence
Georgia Coast Surgical in association with the Bariatric Care Center on the Brunswick Campus of Southeast Georgia Health System received the distinction of becoming an American Society of Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence in early 2007.
The American Society of Bariatric Surgery identified a need to recognize bariatric surgery centers that set best practices and to set a standard to help surgeons and hospitals reach optimal levels of performance. The Surgical Review Corporation was formed as an independent, non-profit corporation to administer the ASBS Centers of Excellence program. The approval process takes many months to complete. After applying for recognition under this program the SRC conducts an on-site inspection of the hospital and the surgical practice, reviews data from the program, interviews those involved with the program, and then makes recommendations regarding the programs suitability to become a Center of Excellence.
Centers of Excellence are expected to have special equipment for the care of weight loss surgery patients, to perform at least 125 weight loss operations annually, maintain data regarding the care of patients, and provide appropriate coverage from qualified bariatric surgeons as well as other consultants. Only programs meeting these exacting criteria are approved as Centers of Excellence. Georgia Coast Surgical and Brunswick Campus of Southeast Georgia Health System are proud to have received such a distinction.
Georgia Coast Surgical and the Bariatric Care Center on the Brunswick Campus of Southeast Georgia Health System are located in Brunswick, Georgia, known as the gateway to the famous Golden Isles of Coastal Georgia.
