After Surgery: LAP-BAND® – Diet Progression
Unlike the roux-en-y gastric bypass, the LapBand doesn’t necessarily decrease nor eliminate hunger patterns. This is due to the continued presence of ghrelin (the hunger hormone) that is being produced by your stomach wall.
Since hunger is one of our main reasons why we do eat, it is appropriate to address hunger after surgery once it becomes present.
The below diet progression are the current recommendations that we ask our patients take to maximize their weight loss after surgery. Please see complete manual (paper copy) for detailed information on nutritional guidelines to using your gastric band effectively. This is just an overview.
